Thornton Roofing was established in 1965 as a family venture by James (Jimmy) and Kathleen Thornton as a general roofing contracting business. The company has grown substantially in recent years; carrying out works of varying size and complexity, specialising in steel cladding and sheeting in conjunction with flat roofing and flooring giving us the ability to offer the client a one stop complete package for the building envelope.

By 1995 the increasing size and number of contracts won by the business lead to the growth of the management team consisting Jimmy Thornton, Mrs. Kathleen Thornton, sons Stephen, Mark and Jim Thornton, Colin Mackey, and several site foremen.

The company continued to expand and by 1999 became Thornton Roofing (Ireland) Ltd consequently became a member of the National Federation of Roofing Contractors (NFRC), The Guild of Master Craftsmen, Construction Line and the Federation for Small Businesses.

In the last ten years the roofing and cladding industry has progressed significantly, with developments in finish, construction techniques and capability. Thornton Roofing has progressed accordingly and has kept at the forefront of the industry. The firm’s extensive list of experience reveals numerous different types of materials applied in a variety of situations across the North and South of Ireland, Scotland, England and the Isle of Man.

Thornton Roofing also carry out extensive floor decking works, and have an active ‘small works’ department for those jobs below £15,000 in value. As one of the most experienced contractors in the marketplace you can be assured of a top quality service with the family touch.

In 2003 the firm opened a fabrication department to address the growing need for specialised components required for the cladding industry.  This has enabled the firm to shorten lead in times, increase quality and negate the reliance upon external suppliers.

In 2007 the firm also opened a Southern Centre office in Naas, Co Kildare to enable better servicing of clients in the South of Ireland.  This office is managed by Mark Thornton with contact details available through the ‘Contact us’ link in the website.

Today the three sons Stephen, Mark and Jim remain within the business, accompanied by sister, Jenny Neeson and offer over 65 years of combined experience in the field of roofing and cladding installations.
